GUNTUR: In what could be another jolt to the India's trade relations with China, a chilli importer from the neighbouring country has lodged a cheating complaint against a local trader with the Guntur police. The importer alleged that the merchant based in Guntur had caused him massive loss to his business and reputation.
According to information, Gi Yung Tai Yongkim came all the way from China and approached the Guntur police on Saturday. He is reported to have come to India after having failed to broker a compensation deal with the management of the firm which allegedly sent inferior quality stocks. Sources said an exporting firm owned by one Polineni Madhubabu of Pranya Condiments from Guntur had shipped about 30 tonnes of chilli to Yongkim following approaval of his samples in China.
However, the chillies imported by the firm of Kim did not match the samples and were rejected by the food safety authorities in his country. Shocked by the rejection of the stock, the Chinese trader demanded compensation from the Guntur merchant. He claimed that he had suffered a loss of Rs 4 crore through the transaction. In addition, he would be liable to face criminal charges in his country for getting such stocks imported from India. Kim alleged that the stocks sent by Madhubabu were not of the same quality as were the samples. However, the exporter refused the claims of the Chinese trader.

While the complaint of the Chinese importer may be genuine , the claim of losing Rs. 4 crore on a shipment of 30 tons seems a bit far fetched...............A proper and thorough investigation is required...........
中国人的投诉也许是真实的。一批货30吨索赔4000万卢比似乎有点不切实际。合理彻底的调查是必需的。

Guntur is no stranger to this kind of scam. In the 1980s a Congress MP from the town was involved in a huge scandalworth several crores of rupees of the same kind in exporting trash tobacco to China with the collusion of a couple of Chinese officials. The two officials were subsequently hanged by the Chinese ahthorities.

I do not understand why vendors like Madhu annot supply right material when the customer (China) is paying the demanded price. In India, it is very common for our people to mix water in milk, mix low quality oil in peanut oil, mix colour flour in turmeric and mirchi powder. The list is unlimited. I really doubt if inspector is going to any take any action on this vendor (Madhu)

These are the kind of traders who bring a bad name to the country and affect exports. They prefer cheating to selling the right quality...just to make a quick buck without bothering about the ensuing mayhem that would come about affecting relations with another country. No wonder then our country is pretty high on the worldwide corruption index for countries...we are somewhere in the top 20 most corrupt countries in the world and that is nothing to be proud of! The apex council dealing with agricultural exports should step in and cancel the licence of this particular trader and blacklist his company permanently!

Generally Indians are scam artists. This is why our export figures are not even as much as Hong Kong, or Singapore... Every item needs to be checked thoroughly before put into the container, and sealed to be delivered to the port. Who will go through such an extent with Indians?

This is possibly a scam by chinese trader. Reject and pocket tonnes of chilly. Do not pay for it and on the contrary, lodge the police complaint against exporter. He should take proper care of inspecting the chillies before the shipment is effected.
