AIDs: The situations you're describing aren't the same.
Both of your examples are people that have already won trying to stay healthy and rested. The example we have here is players trying to manipulate the bracketing so that they have an easier match.
They're certainly there for medals, but I don't see how throwing a game to get an easier next match is about glory or recognition. They are there representing their country on the biggest stage most of these players will ever play on, especially in sports like badminton that normally don't get any attention -- and their instinct is to throw games for easier follow-up matches? Of course they should be blamed, and any appropriate action against them should be taken. Blaming the system for being manipulatable instead of the people who manipulate it is silly.

There is not a single person who would have acted differently. It was in the best interest of their team to lose the match. Winning would have harmed their country's medal chances. There is a negative incentive to win that match.
While some may think they should "give it their all for every game", let me ask those same people a question on a similar thought. If you knew a stock was about to collapse, would you still buy it - knowing you'd lose all your money?

If the system rewards you with easier game if you lose, then it is system's fault. Have you read the part where both teams can go into next round regardless of their results? If I were them, I would of done the same thing.

Lot of faulty logic here. Heats are supposed to be heats, not finals -- and athletes & audience both know that going in. Football teams that have already qualified for the postseason don't try to lose; they just sometimes (not always) rest players who need it and pull players who might get injured. Not the same thing. It's laughable to say that "not a single person would act differently." Nonsense. I would. It's obvious YOU wouldn't, but you've already shown how unethical you are -- you just can't imagine other people that may not be. It's true that the rules need fixing, but there is only one word for purposefully serving into the net repeatedly: shameful.

I would throw out the coaches more than the athletes. Seems unlikely like they decided to take these actions without consent or at the direction of their coaches......this is fairly common in group play, they are being penalized for being bad actors
