There is no doubt CCCP and communist China both had their flaws. Nobody is perfect. America has fundamental flaws too. I don't read this film as being just about communist ideal or soviet glory. I think this is more about the betrayal from elite class, the intellectual impotence of older generations and the lost of innocence and idealist passion among younger generations, both in Russia and China.

No, that is not correct. You have to learn Chinese and watch this at least 3 times to understand the underlying subtleties, for example: 3:40 refers to US's bombing of Chinese embassy in 1999. Why the girl runs on the street? She wants to run back to her old home, which has been demolished and turned into a building site(read the Chinese sign), and to find the toy blocks that her mother discarded.
When the girl says "they? betray us", "they" refers to BOTH Russian leaders AND Chinese leaders.

I watched twice and cried twice. As a Chinese born in the early 80's, I seldom feel the deeply rooted emotional connection with that proud era, but this comic really moved me. I do not expect 99% of the newer generation of Chinese (born post? 90's) to relate themselves to this comic. It is not until I grow up / talked to different people / travelled some related countries that I started to understand the heroic past of intertwined purism, innocence, egotism and a bit of ignorance.
