The research has failed to account for the way Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulas work or that centuries of documented evidence already exists, proving it's effectiveness.TCM herbal formulas use combinations of herbs; likened to sending an army into the body to help it fight off the invading pathogen. Testing and demonstrating efficacy is not brainwashing, it's providing evidence. Fungi have been with us as long or longer than bacteria, so they were building compounds as a defense for a very long time. We are finding some very useful compounds in fungus to this day. I would suspect that the deep oceans hold some very useful old organics as well. After all nature has been at this arms race many millions of years. We just need to know where to look, and how to synthesize what we find. Jellyfish and sponges, along with starfish and sea cucumbers are pretty old creatures; they would be a good place to find useful compounds. I have always been of the mindset that we should link the sciences to each other and look at microbiology with the observational approach to the solutions that nature has already found. There are insects that use fungi and there are fungi that use insects. Learning a symbiotic strategy to improve our immune systems seems to be a logical approach.
