France demands emergency EU summit over China's wine tax threat

France has demanded that the European Union holds an emergency summit after Beijing responded to a Brussels announcement of “anti-dumping” tariffs on Chinese solar panels by threatening retaliatory levies on wine imported from Europe.

I see this as a good thing. If the EU protects it's markets from Chinese goods, then manufacturing will return to continental Europe and Britain.
China does not buy, it only sells.
Please don't kid yourself. China is one big factory that churns out good which we (EU, USA and UK) purchase. If we go down the trade war route it will be China that will loose out.
'Our side, the EU' ?? - Hardly! Our froggy friends don't like being bitten back do they? China will find Australian and USA wines are infinitely better and less costly than French.
If anyone is in any doubt about just how stupid the parasites are, who "run" the vile EU, this is a perfect example! The control freaks in Brussels cannot stand competition from those nations outside the EU. I sincerely hope the Chinese stop importing European wine as it would drop the bureaucrats in Brussels right in the s***!
Clever move to hit France, the trading capitulation specialists in the European defence. We will see how quickly those cheese eating, surrender monkeys start to use their influence to get the others to back off on the solar panel tarrifs.

Out of the 338,000 troops rescued at Dunkirk, 140,000 were French i.e. 41%. The French Army was already beaten by the Germans when Italy made a small scale invasion of the French Alps at the end of June 1940. By this time the French Government had already fled Paris for Bordeaux.
And as mentioned below, the planned German invasion of Britain was cancelled in Sept 1940, fifteen months before Pearl Harbour and more than two years before any American involvement in N Africa or Europe. Also of note is that the French in N Africa (about 125,000 men) fought AGAINST the British and Americans on the side of the Germans - at least until they surrendered to the Allies after two days!
And also as mentioned below, the Soviets were complicit with Germany in dismembering Poland until Germany launched Operation Barbarossa against the Red Army in June 1941.
A bit more than I intended to write but it is as well to get some of these French myths out of the way.
People suffering because of the selfish power games of mandarins. If the Chinese govt is making the Chinese subsidise solar panels for us, that's their loss not ours.

Well, well well: clever Chinese. Hit the protectionist French and other club med countries while trying not to impact those countries that tried to oppose the import duties on solar panels.
They can get good wine elsewhere.

And if we have a huge trade war with them, then European manufacturing as a whole would win.
You may have to pay a little more for a kettle and cheap clothing, but you'd get a lower tax bill, as you'd not have to fund millions of people to stay on the dole so corporations can make greater profits by outsourcing jobs.
China has all the raw materials we need. Most of rare earth metals we need must be imported.

Ah yes the buy and make local principle. One small problem the commerce of the world is now so integrated the only decisions left to make are price and quality competitiveness.
The competitiveness part of that decision is the one the EU under its socialist driven leadership can't achieve.
That just leaves trade barriers or French practices as they are more widely known.
This will not end well, France is an example of a failed ethos, they must not be allowed to poison free trade world wide.
